4 Places Where Chef In Singapore Gets Their Kitchen Supplies
7:24 PM
1. Sia Huat
Sia Huat specialize in catering kitchen supplies to restaurants, hotel
and culinary school. It is a well known brand in the F&B industry. The shop
space is rather cramped and it’s two stories high. On the first floor, it
offers a wide variety of kitchen tools, equipments, gadgets and utensils. On the
second floor, it’s filled with kitchen wares and stationary. The shop assistants
are friendly, willing to help and speak mostly in Mandarin and Dialects. If you
need consultation on a particular item or a brand, ask for help and they will
attend to you personality. To get special discount, purchase in big quantities,
make friends with the shop assistants or shop frequently. In addition, they
provide delivery services if you happen to purchase a bulky item. Best days to
avoid the crowd are Monday, Friday and Saturday. When it comes to buying
expensive items, do not make hasty decision; go to their competitor, Lau Chou
Seng and check for the price difference. Negotiate until you are satisfy with
the price. After all, even after discounts, they are still making profits.

2. Lau Chou Seng
Located a few blocks away from Sia Huat, Lau Chou Seng is without a
doubt the next popular destination to shop for kitchen supplies. Since both
shops are so close to each other, I enjoyed going back and forth to compare the
pricing from their available stock. To gain back loyal customers, both
companies attempted to sell products at a lower price. Even though the price
margin is not significant noticeable, I noticed that Lau Chou Seng offers a
better cash rebate. Having to said that, I felt that the shopping experience in
Sia Huat is much more conducive and pleasant. This is because, being a smaller
shop, Lau Chou Seng is far less organize than Sia Huat. If the item you are seeking
is not on display, do not hesitate to ask for assistance. This is because most
goods are stored in the upper floor. If you are looking for some kitchen wares,
they have a small branch right opposite the street. Currently, they are selling
their kitchen wares at a discounted price due to the annual Great Singapore
Sale.

3. Razorsharp
If you are a wusthof fan, I have great news for you. Razorsharp offers a
wide range of wusthof knife kit at a discounted price. In addition, this shop also
sells imported authentic branded knifes from Japan. Also, they do sell other
weird stuff that you don’t normally see on the market. This shop is highly recommended
to those people who appreciate and or ready to invest in good knifes. Located
in a industrial building, it is hard to spot at first glance. Razorsharp is
quiet at most time and you can be sure to learn something new from experts,
namely the owner itself.

4. Tott
Tott has two branches in Singapore. One in Suntec City and the another in Sime Darnby
Centre. The one I went was in Suntec City. The branch was neat, clean, organize
and well put together. They sell mostly kitchen applicants like mixer, toaster,
rice cooker etc. The service was the best out of the four. However, the price
was much more expensive. After visiting the place, I would recommend this place
to mothers with children and first timer home cooks. This shop is like the last
resort for chefs who are in need of kitchen supplies. Since the Sia Huat, Lau
Chou Seng, Razorsharp are closed on Sunday, Tott is the only shop that is open
on all days. A few other places to visit are IKEA, Giant Hyper, Mega Courts and
Fairprice Extra.
